About Us
Fluid.info is the home of Turning the Tide, a UK charity founded by clinicians to make IV fluid therapy safer. We connect healthcare professionals, share expert knowledge, and drive culture change for better patient care.

The Purpose Behind Our Mission
Change the Culture
We are transforming the way healthcare professionals think about intravenous fluid therapy, moving beyond outdated habits and assumptions.

Build a National Network
By bringing together clinicians, educators, and pharmacists across the UK, we’re sharing knowledge and driving improvement in patient safety.

Empower Every Clinician
Turning the Tide equips healthcare professionals at every level with the confidence and tools to prescribe fluids safely and make a real impact.

Our Story

Ashley Miller
Turning the Tide began as the shared vision of two frontline clinicians, Ashley Miller and Andy Breen. Working in different parts of the NHS, both saw the same recurring problem—patients suffering due to fluid mismanagement. After connecting and realising their goals aligned, they joined forces to make a real impact.
We aim to change the culture around intravenous fluid therapy. Too many patients are harmed by poor fluid prescribing and a lack of understanding about the risks of IV fluids. We’re committed to making fluid management safer and smarter across the NHS.

Andy Breen
David R. Nalin’s insight that matching fluid intake to losses could treat cholera - has saved over 50 million lives worldwide.

The Inspiration
Our work is inspired by the NICE Clinical Guideline 174, which set out clear standards for IV fluid therapy but also highlighted persistent gaps in practice. We also draw motivation from the outstanding quality improvement initiatives led by colleagues in Victoria Hospital, Fife.
Learning from Guidelines
NICE 174 showed us what’s needed—and what’s missing.
Recognising the Risks
IV fluids, if misused, can harm as much as they help.
Spotlight on Success
Scotland’s Victoria Hospital proved real change is possible.
Building on Progress
We set out to expand these improvements nationwide.
